So the Russian-Ukrainian film Battle for Sevastopol was able to make it to Hong Kong in just a year. The somewhat mistitled film tells the story of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a Ukrainian Soviet sniper during World War II. The film opens when she is on tour in the USA in 1942, and introduced in a greeting line to none other that Eleanor Roosevelt.
Movie info: The breakout of the war shatters the world of a young student, Lyudmila Pavlichenko, forcing her to enlist in the army in 1941. The maiden turns out to be a natural-born sniper, her impressive skill and prowess make her stand out among men and women alike.
The film gets a little too melodramatic at times, with some very on-the-nose music choices that also are way too modern for the scenes they were used in, but overall a pretty solid and emotional war film and biopic. Really enjoyed it! Strange and a little misleading title though, since the Sevastopol part isn't really what the film is about.
Both admirals are killed during the battle, and the city of Sevastopol is taken by the alliance of British, French, Sardinian, and Turkish troops.
